All About Jamie
(AWOL’s Software Development Specialist)

  1. Q: What is your official job title?
    A: Software Development Specialist.

  2. Q: How long have you worked for AWOL?
A: I’ve been working in my current role for two years now, since 2020.

  3. Q: Describe a typical day at AWOL.
A: My main role is to develop new features for AWOL software services and provide support to customer services for some of the more difficult issues customers may have. I will also prepare certain things for the event in advance (i.e. race number checks etc.). On race days, I monitor the photos on a feed as they come in live, and manage each photographer to make sure that each participant gets the highest quality photo that they want and deserve.

  4. Q: What do you love about your job?
A: One thing that I love about my role is solving problems that initially seem simple to resolve but might have a hidden complexity. Seeing how happy participants are with their live event photos makes my role feel very worthwhile. A photo is a memory you get to hold in physical form, and live photography at MPS events means that participants can view their memories any time, even as soon as they are taken. It opens up more sophisticated social discussions between participants and family/friends, and it also means that people who can’t physically be at the event can still view their loved ones’ photos as they come in live, which helps them to feel involved, as if they watched them throughout the entire course, making them feel as if they were truly there. Immersive, meaningful photos are everything to the participant and that’s why I believe live photography is one of the most essential services to be available at MPS events. To be contributing to the devlopment of this new and ground-breaking technology is fantastic.

  5. Q: What’s the best thing about working at AWOL?
A: I love working at AWOL. The best thing about it has to be the relentless determination and can-do attitude that all staff share. If AWOL want to do something, we will do it. Anything is possible. It provides an excellent place to grow & develop, while also being exciting for myself each day.

  6. Q: As a child, what did you want to be when you grew up?
A: Not too sure why, but I wanted to be a Scientist while growing up.

  7. Q: What is number 1 on your bucket list?
A: I want to travel more, a little backpacking sounds fun!
